Ramp Entry WAVs
A wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) with a ramp is a specially modified car, van, or minibus designed to allow a wheelchair user to enter and exit the vehicle safely and comfortably using a ramp system.
-
Ramp Access: A foldable ramp—usually at the rear or side of the vehicle—creates a smooth incline for the wheelchair to roll into the cabin. Ramps can be manual or powered.
-
Lowered Floor: Many WAVs have lowered floors to reduce the ramp angle and increase headroom inside.
-
Securement Systems: Once inside, the wheelchair is secured using tie-downs or docking systems, and the user is provided with a seatbelt.
-
Passenger or Driver Options: Ramp-entry WAVs can be configured for the wheelchair user to travel as a passenger or, in some cases, drive from their wheelchair.
Ramp-entry WAVs are popular for personal use, taxis, and care transport services due to their practicality and affordability
