Accessible Walks in Shropshire

No matter what kind of accessible walk you're looking for, Shropshire has plenty of options to choose from, so, put on your walking shoes and explore the beauty of this wonderful county without worrying about how you will navigate the area.

1. Llanymynech Heritage Area

The Llanymynech Heritage Area is home to Hoffman Kiln, which is one of only three in the country, as well as a wide range of wildlife.

There is a car park on site, which has room for around 8 cars, with a slight gradient down to the network of flat pathways. The trails meander through meadows, woodland along the canal and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to complete.

All pathways can accommodate wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs and are wide enough to navigate easily.

There are toilets available to use at the Heritage Centre Stable block (although opening times apply).

2. Stiperstones National Nature Reserve

Stiperstones National Nature Reserve is perfect for wheelchair users and those using mobility scooters, thanks to the large format flat terrain pathways that are wide enough for people to easily pass.

There is free parking available for over 20 vehicles at The Knolls car park, which has dedicated disabled parking spaced available. Access from the car park is easy and accessible for all.

Public toilets are available at The Bog Centre and there’s also a café so you can grab a refreshment during your visit.

3. Carding Mill Valley and Long Mynd

If you are looking for a well laid out route that has plenty of flat pathways and concrete terrains that are suitable for wheelchairs, Carding Mill Valley meanders through hills and beside a stream, making it a great location during summer.

Although the trail does head off upward into the hills, you don’t need to take this route, you can stick to the main level footpaths. If you do head over any of the streams, there are small footbridges in place which are level, allowing wheelchairs access.

There’s a couple of parking options at Carding Mill Valley, that have plenty of space for wheelchair accessible vehicles to park.

4. The Mere at Ellesmere

The Mere at Ellesmere is a wheelchair accessible park with several trails that take you around the lake and through the woods.

There are several trails and paths around the lake and through the woods that are well-maintained and suitable for wheelchairs. The paths are mostly flat and level, with some gentle slopes in places.

The car park also has disabled parking spaces, accessible toilets, and other facilities that make it easy for people with disabilities to visit and enjoy the park.

5. Severn Valley Country Park
